West Springfield High School Next Stop For Cellphone Pouches

During a meeting on Tuesday night, the West Springfield School Committee discussed the timeline for using cell phone pouches that can only be opened with a magnetic device.

West Springfield High School principal Patrick Danby told the committee the pouches are ready to go for the next school year.

Last fall the school received a grant of 25-thousand-dollars to buy the pouches, but the cost increased and they could not buy them until they received additional funding in January. Students can carry their phones, but they will be locked.

They can use the office phone if needed and parents can call the office to speak with their kids. Students who need phones for medical reasons will have Velcro closures.
