The new Springfield School Superintendent has been named.
The School Committee tapped a local candidate, Dr Sonia Dinnall for the post.
She was brought up in the Springfield School system.
She becomes the first woman and first black woman to run the state's third largest school system. She will succeed Dan Warwick who is retiring.
Dr Dinnall was the principal at Commerce High School.
She is the Chief of Family and Community Engagement for the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership.
She has also been in the Hartford School system.
Dinnall told committee members that she is "here for the kids and wants to do the best" she can for them.
A contract still has to be ironed out.
