Jobless Rate Increases Slightly In Massachusetts

The Massachusetts unemployment rate is up a tenth of a point for May to three percent.

However, over the year, the Office of Labor and Workforce Development noted the seasonally adjusted jobless rate was down three-tenths of a percent.

According to the report: "The May estimates show 3,667,400 Massachusetts residents were employed and 115,200 were unemployed, for a total labor force of 3,782,700. The unemployment rate at 3.0 percent was 0.1 percentage points higher than the revised April rate of 2.9 percent. Over-the-month, the May labor force increased by 13,600 from 3,769,100 in April, with 7,500 more residents employed and 6,000 more residents unemployed. "

Town by town breakdowns are expected at some point this week.

The national unemployment rate last month was four-percent.
