The Amherst Firefighters' union is speaking out after one firefighter was available to respond to a recent call.
The President of Amherst Firefighters Local 1764 says this shows the department is understaffed and needs more hands on deck.
Only one firefighter was initially available to respond to a blaze on South Pleasant Street because all other crews were taking care of previous calls.
The union president says they have tried to bring the issue up to the Town Council, but their requests have fallen on "deaf ears."
