Election officials across the country are concerned that changes with the U.S. Postal Service could delay ballots for November's election.
Potential problems include postmarked ballots arriving too late to be counted and in some cases ballots were returned as undeliverable even though they were properly addressed.
In a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy this week, the National Association of Secretaries of State and the National Association of State Election Directors raised concerns that issues with the postal service could disenfranchise voters.
Meantime, the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin says the postal service needs to be make improvements now. He notes that if a ballot is postmarked by election day- it must be delivered within three days in order to be counted.
With less than two months to go before the election, the letter urged the postal service to fix the problems.
