A former prosecutor is being appointed to lead the investigation into the death of State Police trainee Enrique Delgado-Garcia.
Veteran attorney David Meier has been named by Attorney General Andrea Campbell to probe the death of the 25-year-old recruit while boxing at the academy in New Braintree.
Worcester District Attorney Joe Early recused himself from the investigation because Delgado-Garcia had worked for his office as a victim advocate.
Meier is promising both a complete and transparent investigation.
An attorney for Delgado-Garcia's family says they want answers about the massive injuries that took his life.
