Hospital Cancels Elective Surgeries Due To IV Fluid Shortage

A Western Massachusetts hospitals is canceling some upcoming elective surgeries due to the national shortage of I-V fluid.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton says it is pushing back elective procedures requiring certain I-V fluids that can be delayed until at least Thursday.

This ensures the hospital's fluid supply is available for emergencies.

The North Carolina facility that produces most of the I-V fluid in the country was damaged by Hurricane Helene, causing the shortage.
