Holyoke Public Schools To Officially Exit Receivership

Holyoke Public Schools will return to local control next week.

Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler announced last night that the district will exit receivership on July first.

The state took control of HPS in 2015 due to continued low performance rates, but determined last October the district was back on a path for success.

Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia said the city has done a lot of soul searching over the past ten years, and hopes HPS can be a blueprint for other districts looking to climb out of receivership.
