Tick Issues Increasing On Cape. Here's How You Can Help

Barnstable County officials are asking residents to assist with tick reporting.

Those who are bitten by a tick are being asked to send the insect to the county through the regional testing service.

The basic test, which is free, will determine if the tick is a carrier of afflictions such as Lyme Disease.

Officials are concerned about the increasing number of tick species appearing on the Cape.

For one, the Lone Star tick, which is a carrier of Alpha-Gal Syndrome; while rarely fatal, it can lead to severe allergies to meat.
