U.S. Customs and Border Protection is asking Boston area police departments to make space for detained non-citizens.
The request is raising concerns that the Trump administration plans to round up a significant number of illegal immigrants.
The request seeks beds to house detainees as they are awaiting flights to leave the country or a transfer to another jail.
The customs agency would pay a flat rate to local police who agree to house detainees.
The Boston Mayor Marty Walsh hasn't commented yet.
