Two western Massachusetts school districts are improving their dropout rates.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced Tuesday the dropout rate for this past school year in Springfield was twelve-and-a-half-percent, while in Holyoke it was 18-point-four-percent.
While those numbers are significantly higher than the state rate of four-point-nine-percent, they represent a major decrease over a five-year period.
The report shows that the dropout rate statewide is 1 point 9 per cent and it hasn't been that low in more than 30 years.
