People in Belchertown are saying "not in my backyard" when it comes to a proposal to move some rattlesnakes into the area.
About 50 people attended a public meeting of a rattlesnake review group Tuesday night to oppose any future plan to create a timber rattlesnake colony on the Quabbin Reservoir.
Many in attendance thought this was a bad idea when they were previously interviewed by the state.
The snake is an endangered species with only five populations spread out across Massachusetts.
The committee looking at the issue is looking at sites besides the Quabbin. Sites in Pittsfield, Holyoke and Milton are also being considered.
Another meeting is set for Ware. There is no timetable for a recommendation.
