City Council Seeks Protection During Meetings

Some Springfield  city councilors are asking for a police officer at council meetings.

The issue has been raised by Councilors Justin Hurst and Bud Williams.   Hurst says there are a lot of "hot-button" issues with passionate  opinions on all sides.

Williams says the risks to public safety  outweigh the cost of providing security at council meetings.

Mayor Domenic Sarno says an officer can be assigned  to a council meeting due to an issue, but that he'd rather have  officers on the street.
