Deadly Storm- Now The Cleanup

The storm that rocked the Massachusetts and Connecticut has now claimed two lives.  

In Longmeadow, a Department of Public Works employee clearing the tracks was struck and killed by an Amtrak train.  That happened on Bernie Road in the Meadows section of the town.  Town Manager Steven Crane telling reporters last night that the entire department and in fact the town is rocked by the accident.  Amtrak officials say they are aware of what happened but won't comment until after the investigation.

In East Hartford, a man was also struck and killed by a plow.  That accident is under investigation as well.

Numerous school districts are off today (Wednesday) because of the storm.  Those districts include Agawam, Chicopee, Holyoke, Springfield, West Springfield and Westfield.  A complete list of all the storm related information is right here on the WHYN website.

LATEST SCHOOL CLOSINGS AND DELAYS

EverSource and National Grid both report a clean outage map in Western Mass.  There are just a couple of scattered outages in the central part of the state.In most every community in the state, there is some kind of clock that is ticking on storm cleanup.

Most communities require you to shovel sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm ends.Fire Departments throughout the state are also asking you for some help by shoveling out fire hydrants.
