Governor Charlie Baker is calling for a new investment of 28-million-dollars in early childhood education.
Baker says the money would be used to provide rate increases to day care centers that serve low income children.
The average preschool teacher makes around 13-dollars an hour, and officials say they want to drive that number to 15-dollars an hour.
The 28-million-dollars is being made available because of savings achieved in the Education Department.
