A decision on whether to close the historic but dilapidated Mater Dolorosa Church in Holyoke is being delayed until the fall.
The Holyoke Historical Commission held a well-attended meeting Wednesday night and voted to put a hold on the building's demolition for the next six months.
The commission has to approve the order even though the Diocese of Springfield has requested an emergency order to tear down the church, which is culturally significant to the area's Polish population.
