A scary scene unfolded in West Springfield on Monday as state and federal authorities helped to neutralize multiple pipe bombs discovered in a pickup truck.
West Springfield Police Chief Ronald Campurciani says Robert DeCotto of Russell, a war veteran, led police on a chase down Route 5 after apparently telling staff at a West Springfield veterans center that he had explosives.
He was reportedly arrested and brought to Baystate Medical Center for treatment.
There was also a police presence at DeCotto's home, where they say at least one explosive device was found.
Police tell us that there have been no charges filed although that could change.
