Connecticut Diocese Getting Smaller

Big changes are coming to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford.

The archdiocese says they are consolidating 212 parishes down to 127,  with the possibility of future consolidations.

Leaders say the changes  are needed because of a declining number of priests and Catholic  families, dropping attendance at Masses and the cost of maintaining  aging buildings.

The biggest changes are in New Haven County, where 16  churches are scheduled to close.
