Painkillers Mean Doctor Will Go To Jail

A former Ludlow doctor is headed to  jail after pleading guilty to illegally prescribing painkillers to  patients for non-medical reasons.

Fernando  Jayma was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in the Hampden County House  of Correction yesterday in Berkshire Superior Court.

He must resign his  medical license and make restitution to MassHealth for false healthcare  claims.

Authorities say Jayma prescribed opioids, including morphine  and fentanyl, to patients for no legitimate medical purpose.
