Mayor Stands Behind Fire Chief In Engine Brownout

Holyoke Fire Chief John Pond is  issuing a statement following a "no confidence" vote taken by the  Holyoke firefighter union.

Pond defended his decision to "brown out" an  engine that was shut down during a deadly apartment fire on New Year's  Day, saying in a statement yesterday that it was based on being fiscally  responsible to taxpayers, but also claiming that the brownout would not  reduce response times, as critics have claimed.

Holyoke Mayor Alex  Morse issued a statement of support for Pond following Wednesday's  no-confidence vote and vouched for the safety of residents.
