Residents in Ware are being told to boil their water until further notice.
Officials say a sample from one of the town's four wells has tested positive for possible human or animal waste contamination.
Any ice, beverages, uncooked food or formula made with water last Friday or before that day should be discarded.
Department of Public Works crews plan additional tests.
