Lawmakers Hear Case For Sanctuary State

The ACLU of Massachusetts  is among dozens of groups voicing support today for the Safe  Communities Act.

The Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland  Security is considering the bill which would limit voluntary  collaboration between local law enforcement and federal immigration  enforcement agencies.

Carol Rose of the ACLU says history will one day  judge how Massachusetts  treated immigrants.

Governor Charlie Baker opposes passage saying the  bill would prevent police from enforcing bipartisan polices that have  been in place for a decade.
