Longmeadow Accident Might Have Been Avoided

Longmeadow Police say a three car crash on Route 5 last night could have been avoided.

Police called to the area around Maple Road where they say the driver of one of the cars admitted to them that she took her eyes off the road in order to briefly look at her phone.

Police say when she took her eyes off the road, she rear ended another car at about 40 miles per hour.  Two people were taken to the hospital.

Now the accident comes hours before the state senate considers a measure to make it illegal to use a hands held device either for texting or phone calls.

The bill would roughly mimic the cell phone law in Connecticut.
