MGM Delays Housing Component

Springfield's  City Council is approving MGM's request to delay a market-rate housing  project that's part of the deal to bring a casino to town.

The council  voted unanimously at last night's meeting to give MGM until March 2020,  which will be 18 months after the casino and resort is scheduled to  open.

MGM requested the delay because it found a new spot it wants to  develop, a historic block on Elm Street at Court Square.

The original  timeline called for most of the work to be done by next month.
