Cuts Made To PVTA Routes

The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority  is cutting routes.

Citing a multi-million-dollar budget deficit, the  PVTA board of advisers voted to eliminate the express bus from Union  Station in Springfield to the Holyoke Mall and the Tiger Trolley in  South Hadley, and reduce service to twenty others during a Wednesday  meeting.

Protesters decried the cuts, saying they disproportionately  affect low-income and minority communities.

The changes are expected to  take effect late next month or in early September.
