Hartford Police are urging people living in surrounding communities to lock their cars.
Police say a recent crackdown on stolen vehicles in Hartford shows that many are found with the keys in the ignition.
Thieves apparently check area driveways for unlocked vehicles with the keys left inside.
In many cases, police say the stolen cars are then driven to Hartford and used for crimes, or are traded for drugs.
