Community college presidents in Massachusetts are reacting in advance to news that President Trump may put a stop to a federal program granting protection to the children of undocumented immigrants.
A statement issued Monday, which includes the signatures of the presidents from Springfield Technical Community College, Holyoke Community College and Greenfield Community College, expresses support for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and says the colleges are committed to the education of all students, regardless of immigration status.
Trump is expected to end the program, which was created by former President Barack Obama in 2012, but not before issuing a six-month grace period in order to allow Congress to act on the matter.
