Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni is backing Governor Charlie Baker's push for stronger prosecution against drug dealers.
Baker proposed a bill last month that would allow for manslaughter charges to be filed against dealers who supply drugs that result in a drug user's death, with a sentencing range of five years to life in prison.
Gulluni issued a press release on Tuesday, commenting that the bill would allow for "significantly enhanced penalties" in such cases and sends a clear message to drug dealers that they can be held accountable for their actions.
The bill has been forwarded for review in both the House and Senate, and Gulluni is encouraging lawmakers to consider it carefully.
