Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is sounding off about the latest gun violence in the city.
The Springfield Police Department is investigating its 12th homicide case of the year after a deadly shooting near an elementary school on Union Street on Friday.
Sarno released a statement over the weekend blaming the recent uptick on gun violence on gangs.
This comes as Sarno and Police Commissioner John Barbieri have announced the expansion of the city's ShotSpotter system, which alerts authorities when there's gunfire.
