DA To Oppose Parole For Cop Killer

A former Worcester man who killed the  police chief of Paxton in 1994 is seeking parole.

Jamie Richards was  sentenced to life in prison for the killing of Paxton Police Chief  Robert Mortell.

His initial parole hearing is scheduled for Thursday,  and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early strongly opposes his  release.

Mortell was tracking Richards and two other burglary and  carjacking suspects in the woods when he was shot.
