Springfield Considers Raising Smoking Age

There's a public hearing in Springfield next week to consider raising the age to 21 for buy tobacco products.

The city's Public Health Council will hear testimony from supporters and opponents of the proposal.

The statewide minimum age to purchase cigarettes or other tobacco products is 18, but communities can adopt local ordinances.

The hearing is set for Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Springfield Public Library Central Office.
