Springfield Bans Smoke Sales To 18's

The age to buy cigarettes in Springfield is changing, after an ordinance passed by city council members on Monday.

It'll go from 18 to 21 later this year, putting Springfield  in the same category as Holyoke, Northampton, Greenfield, Easthampton  and over a hundred other cities and towns in Massachusetts.

The council  passed the measure unanimously last night. Proponents say the adjustment  will drive down health care costs and keep more young people from  getting started on tobacco.
