A public hearing is being scheduled for consideration of a needle exchange program in Springfield.
The city's Public Health Council has slated the meeting for Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock at the Central Library on State Street.
City Council and voters both said no to the idea in 1998. Mayor Domenic Sarno released a statement on Sunday night indicating he is willing to keep an open mind to syringe access wraparound services, but that he will not consider the use of a safe injection site.
The last time the city had debated that issue was back in 1998.
Both the city council and voters at the polls turned down the measure.
