SJC Says Car Check Doesn't Include Under The Hood

A court case involving a Holyoke man  has been ruled on by the Supreme Judicial Court.

In a split decision  announced, the court's chief justice wrote police went too far  when they searched the vehicle of Anthony Ortiz during a traffic stop  in 2015.

Officers say they found two guns when they removed an air  filter.

Ortiz reportedly gave permission for police to search his  vehicle for drugs, but the court ruled that permission didn't extend to  the engine compartment.
