PVTA: More Action Needed On Mass Transit Funding

Fares are officially getting higher  for Pioneer Valley Transit Authority riders. An advisory board voted  yesterday to raise a one-way basic fare from one dollar, twenty-five  cents to one-fifty, which is a 20-percent increase.

The board determined  it will also review the possibility of a new increase every three  years.

The board also approved a number of service cuts, tentatively  scheduled to take effect in September if the PVTA doesn't get additional  state funding.
