Rented Vehicles Will See Added Charge

A bill to provide dedicated funding  for municipal police training statewide is headed to the Senate.

The  House has passed the legislation that would generate an estimated  seven-million dollars annually through a two-dollar surcharge on all  rented vehicles.

The bill's sponsor, Natick Representative David  Linsky, says local police departments need to be able to count on  dedicated revenue for training, just like fire departments.

The Senate is expected to pass the measure.
