It appears that Springfield will become the first major city in the state where cops will be wearing body cameras.
The Springfield City Council approved the program when it voted to ratify the new police four year contract.
Police Commissioner John Barbieri telling reporters after the vote that guidelines are currently being written for police protocols.
In the end, the Commissioner says that he hopes that body cameras in the long run will prove the professionalism of his department.
The Commissioner can't say for a certainty when the cameras will be operational. He says they have to be bought first which will take some time.
