Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is pointing to the fatal shooting of a police officer in Weymouth as another example of a flawed court system.
Sarno said the individual who was arrested should not have been on the streets, and that the court-bail system seems to give violent repeat offenders affordable and favorable release conditions.
He says it doesn't make sense and is once again asking state lawmakers to act on and pass his proposed legislation to allow prosecutors to appeal low bail rulings from judges.
Emanuel Lopes is accused of attacking and killing officer Michael Chesna and a resident, Vera Adams, in an incident on Sunday.
