Accused Killer Pleads Not Guilty

The man accused of killing a Weymouth  police officer and a bystander is being held without bail.

Emanuel  Lopes was arraigned in Quincy District Court yesterday, where he  appeared in a hospital gown and wheelchair.

Lopes is accused of killing Weymouth police officer  Michael Chesna and 77-year-old bystander Vera Adams.

He is expected back in court the end of next month.

Meantime,  Governor Baker is repeating a familiar theme.

He would support the death penalty for cop killers.

The question is whether the legislature would have any want to debate the issue.
