Chandler Steps Aside But Running For Re-Election

State Senate President Harriette  Chandler is preparing to hand over power to her successor, Ashland  Democratic Senator Karen Spilka.

Chandler delivered her final address  as president yesterday, praising her colleagues for continuing their  work during difficult times.

The Worcester Democrat was voted as  president when Stan Rosenberg stepped aside amid a sex assault scandal  involving his husband.

The 80-year-old Chandler has been in the Senate  for nearly two decades.
