Local Group Opposes Local Gas Pipeline

A coalition of citizens groups opposing a planned expansion of the Columbia Gas pipeline into the region.

Opponents say the project includes a six-mile pipe from Agawam to Holyoke and a two-mile duplication pipeline from an expanded Agawam compressor station.

The coalition says it believes the infrastructure expansion is unnecessary, expensive and will add to greenhouse gas emissions.

Doctor Marty Nathan who is a member of the opposition group says that there are too many cheaper and safer ways besides natural gas.

More meetings are planned.
