A legislative delegation is heading to Portugal to examine its decriminalization of opioids.
Senate President Karen Spilka says the trip is a unique opportunity to consider possible solutions for the opioid epidemic.
However, the Boston Herald reports some elected officials, including Boston Mayor Marty Walsh are voicing concerns about decriminalization.
People in Portugal who are in possession of small amounts of opioids are not arrested, a panel determines if they should be sent to rehab, counseling or have their case suspended.
