Holyoke High North is one of the only schools in the area where the first bell doesn't ring until 8:10 a.m.
The CDC says 53 percent of high schools in Massachusetts start between 7:30 and 7:59 in the morning, with eight percent starting before 7:30.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends an 8:30 start time, and new numbers from the University of Washington are supporting that idea.
Holyoke High North shifted the start time two years ago and has seen a decline in chronic absences since the change.
The School system is under the control of a receiver and has been for the last couple of years.
