There's controversy in Northampton about a gift of ammunition from Walmart to the city's police department.
A City Council meeting last week drew members of the public with concerns about the local store's plan to give the Northampton PD about 13-thousand-dollars' worth of ammo, which Mayor David Narkewicz said was being given because the store was no longer selling the products.
The council voted 6-to-3 to have the gift acceptance discussed further in committee.
However, Walmart has since withdrawn the offer, according to police officials, who said the store was surprised at the amount of push back.
The ammo, according to the mayor would have saved something in the neighborhood of 13 thousand dollars. That ammo was going to be used for training purposes.
