The state House has elected Robert DeLeo to a sixth term as speaker.
The vote as the legislature convened yesterday extends the Winthrop Democrat's reign as the longest serving speaker in Massachusetts history.
The Senate also voted to continue with Karen Spilka of Ashland as president.
Spilka says priorities for the session include adequately funding education, possible tax reform and slowing the rise of prescription drug prices.
