Region Prepares For Body Cameras For Police

Last week's six-figure award issued in a police brutality case against the city of Springfield is on the minds of city officials.

A 250-thousand-dollar award was given by a federal jury in Boston after a man alleged three officers used excessive force against him in 2013.

Police Commissioner John Barbieri said during a City Council meeting on Monday that he is continuing to push for all officers to wear body cameras.

The city is also waiting for a consultant's report regarding the SPD's internal investigation unit.

The measure is similar to what State Police and Hartford Police are doing.

Both of those departments expect to be on line by the end of the year.
