Mayor Says Arrests Don't Reflect On Rank And File

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno is responding to five police officers being charged for allegedly assaulting four people at a restaurant in 2015.

Sarno said yesterday that the incident is not reflective of the vast majority of the Springfield Police Department's officers.

The policemen were arraigned in court yesterday and all pleaded not guilty.

All of the officers have been suspended without pay.

Meantime, Orlando Ramos, a Springfield City Councilor, says the latest allegations of violence are a continued call for a more powerful police commission, something that the mayor has nixed in the past.
