Report: 15 Cases Of Clergy Reported To Springfield Diocese
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield is issuing a report on sexual abuse by priests.
The report in the diocesan magazine this week indicates there were 15 cases of alleged sex abuse reported to the diocese last year, the most since 2008.
Bishop Mitchel Rozanski says the spike is likely to have something to do with the Pennsylvania grand jury investigation into Catholic Church sex abuse released last year.
The report indicates since 1992, the Diocese of Springfield has paid out 147 abuse claims totaling nearly 15-million dollars. The Diocese says that if there are any new cases that come to their attention they will send them to the Hampden County District Attorney for further investigation.
