Springfield Closer To Ban On Plastic Bags

It appears the Springfield City Council is inching closer to making the city the next community to ban single use plastic bags in the city.

City Councilor Jesse Ledderman says there will me a committee hearing Wednesday afternoon to gain final public comments then the council appears ready to approve the measure at its next meeting on Monday night.

If the ban is approved, the city would join Boston as the two largest cities in the state to install such a ban.

The measure if approved would become law one year after the mayor signs the measure.
