A woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train just north of Union Station on Monday.
The Springfield Police Department says it responded to the area of Wason Avenue and Clinton Street at around 3:30 p.m., and that the victim was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center.
Amtrak said its Vermonter train was stopped due to a trespasser incident and was back on the move after about a two-hour delay.
Those in the area say that it is a popular shortcut if you are trying to get to Main Street. .
